DMC - Politics is endless load of crap (2008-11-15, read 2682×)

Death metal band DMC lives their “mortal” life for some 17 years. They’ve become a stable band after several complications concerning most of all line-up. They’ve focused all their powers on composing quality music. I’ve interviewed singer Quatchudem, who is actually the only DMC’s original member. We were talking about past and presence.

Hi! DMC is working for a bunch of years. Can you tell us something from history, how it all began?
Actually there’s nothing interesting in our beginnings, maybe just only that we were bored and had nothing better to do.

Well we can say that it was a classical beginning like by other young bands. How old where you then? You had to be very young…
Yes, but I think, that it was a little bit more complicated at that time (instruments etc.), I was 14 and didn’t have much money. Some older friends were helping us. I started the band with Flegin (Melancholy Pessimism) and he’s even one year younger.

Yeah, this used to be a huge problem for young bands. Approximately after three years you toured with such bands like Krabathor, Root and others. It had to be great playing with them.
Yeah it really was great, but I have to say, that it wasn’t that hard then, because there weren’t as many bands as there are today, and people attended much more actions of this type then nowadays. That’s why it wasn’t so difficult to gig. You can also remember these times right after revolution, when people were starving for music and death metal bands were as rare as crocus.

You’ve mentioned guitarist Flegin. As far as I know, not only him, but also drummer Olda left for Melancholy Pessimism. What is their current situation, when MP some kind of don’t exist?
If you think Melancholy, Vlasta (singer of Melancholy Pessimism) is still looking for suitable people for his band. Flegin and Olda are not playing at all at the time. What a pity for both sides!!!

What’s the current DMC’s line-up?
Current DMC is: Carlos - drums, Miguel - guitar, Dragan - guitar, Kniebush – bass guitar and I command them and scream. I hope this will last for a long time, because the hardest thing for DMC was keeping the line-up.

Actually even you left DMC for some time and sang in a band called Scabbard. Why did this happen? Personal reasons or it simply stopped amusing you?
My visiting at Scabbard was only such a coincidence, because DMC that time stagnated, and so I was glad of this offer. At this time also Flegin left DMC, which was quite a hard hit. We had to stand up, because almost all songs were from his head and it isn’t a piece of cake to get such a fool.

I was just about to ask, who the DMC’s main composer is now…
Most of the music is Miguel’s work, but it happens that we try to unfold his ideas altogether as much as we can, so one could say, that it’s such a jam, from which something comes up… And I do the lyrics on my own.

What are your lyrics about and where are you searching for inspiration?
Most of the lyrics come from WWII. Something still tempts me about this topic and the major source is books. I’ve quite a bunch of them and I still can’t get enough. I also find a lot of topics in politics. That’s a real endless load of crap, you can write about on and on. And finally there’s human soul. That’s sometimes also very interesting topic.

Let’s now focus on the music itself. You’ve just recorded some material and first demo, a song called „Renegade“, can be heard on your profile at Bandzone.cz. Can you tell us something about the recording?
It’s just a promo, so we recorded mere four songs. We didn’t want to waste lots of time in expensive studio and the present the outcome as a demo. If we found somebody willing to release it, we would record it again and there’d be much more material. We were recording at Gate of Sorrow’s test-room. They’ve got quite serious recording equipment. I think they’ve done a very good job!

The record’s got pretty good sound. Music has also moved on much, so I hope you’ll succeed in finding some recording company. In compare with your previous records, „Renegade“ seems to me more as a classical death metal piece. Do the other songs sound like that?
Renegade is kind of heavy. The rest of the song is in my opinion more about music, but still its classical death metal. We hope we’ll be able to get it all on a CD soon (incl. booklet etc.). Of course you’ll be able to hear it all at Bandzone. Then you can make your opinion about it all! Btw. Thanks for appreciation!!! I’ve got a very good feeling about this record, so I think we’ll finally find somebody interested in it!!

And what about DMC live? Of course you’ve played several gigs, but I think even you wish there were more. What’s the fans’ reaction at concerts?
Of course we’d appreciate more gigs, gut we’re glad at least for what we have! Plus there are our jobs and families, so we can’t afford some intensive touring. And I think, that the fans also can’t complain, we try to do our best at each and every gig, but the best thing will be, if they come to see us live!!

I could easily imagine you at Brutal Assault festival. Your music would perfectly fit in there. But it’s kind of hard to get to such a festival. Are you going to get to some similar action next year?
We still try to show up at these festivals, but as you sad, it’s kind of hard to get there. There lots of bands and I fully understand the organizers of such monster actions, that they can’t watch, what’s going on at the “shore”. Maybe it’s about luck, that someone mentions you. Well are days are not over, so we hope our chance will come.

I think you’ve surely got the chance. You do a good music, so it’s just a matter of time before someone mentions you. Maybe this interview will help a bit. In the end I’d just ask, whether there’s something you want to say to your fans?
Well what to say!!! Maybe just that we love our fans and especially those, who really like this genre. I hope they’ll last, because in my opinion they are the power that makes this scenery grow. Those, who listen to metal only because it’s currently “ready”, are worthless fans, because they’ll never know, what this is all about.

Thanks a lot for your words and your time and I hope we’ll see each other at one of your gigs.
I thank you!! We much appreciate, when somebody’s interested in what we do. Hope we’ll meet at some really heavy gig. Greetings Q
